Around 1236,000 trademark violation cases are pending with the Indian government. The Indian Ministry of Commerce indicts the issue to the rising number of trademark violation cases since 2001-2002 and the lack of professionals to inspect them.
"The backlog in the trade marks registry has arisen because of approximately 100 percent increase in the applications filed since 2001-02 and due to lack of adequate manpower," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia told the Lok Sabha.
He said, around 71 posts of the total 122 posts of officers from any ranks of examiners are not yet filled. Further discussions with the hiring agencies are being initiated for recruitment of eligible candidates for the vacant posts.
Topping that, around 8000 trademark dispute files are missing from the various offices. According to Scindia, the Ministry had introduced free search method and digitization of files to help speed up the registration and application process.
